Referring to our recent school library and toilet construction projects, the award particularly recognised Together We Learn for delivering impactful projects in difficult circumstances, managing projects with integrity, and doing quality construction with cost efficiency. The Gondar projects (photos below) acknowleged with the award included:
- Meseret Elementary School library, benefitting 1,800 Kindergarten to Grade 8 students. Funded by a former student of the school, Wonfel Aid, and Educational Opportunity Foundation.
- Walaj Primary School toilet block, benefitting 60 kindergarten students. Funded by Corvallis Sister Cities Assocation.
- Hibret Elementary School library, benefitting 1,000 Grade 1 to Grade 8 students. Funded by former student of the school, Mekonnen Kassa, and Open Hearts Big Dreams Fund.
Together We Learn was one of only three organisations to win the award, and the smallest NGO to be recognised! Congratulations to other awardees, the Take Care of Homes Association from the World Bank and Amhara Development Association.
We are grateful for the recognition and the education office support for our work. 2024 has been a challenging year in the Amhara region due to ongoing conflict. We are thankful to the funders and donors who contributed to the construction projects, to all the donors who support our holistic range of projects, and those who contribute unrestricted funding to make it all possible.
This award gives us the energy to continue delivering access to quality education for communities who need it!
