Enkutatash! Ethiopian New Year Cooking Class

Join us to celebrate Ethiopian New Year – Enkutatash – at a fun and delicious cooking class, with all proceeds going to support children’s education in Ethiopia.

The Cooking Class

Hosted at Delina’s restaurant in Shepherd’s Bush Market, come and learn how to make a complete Ethiopian meal – food described by TV chef, Rick Stein, as “gorgeous” on his visit to the restaurant. The class will be a fun, friendly and immersive experience in a cosy setting, that adults and teens will be sure to enjoy.

At the class you will learn simple and traditional cooking techniques, using a blend of organic spices, herbs, legumes and multi-grains. This culminates in the creation of a selection of vegetarian Ethiopian sauces and injera – an Ethiopian flatbread that you will make!

Each ticket includes a glass of ‘tejsecco’, a take on the sparkling wine using Ethiopia’s own honey wine, to celebrate Ethiopian New Year.

Bring a Dinner Guest

You can also purchase Dinner Guest tickets in addition to your cooking class ticket, so that friends and family can join for the meal after the cooking is done!

Cooking class ticket £60

Dinner Guest ticket £20

All dishes are vegetarian and injera is naturally gluten free. If you have any other dietary requirements, please let us know by email ([email protected]).

Location: Delina Kitchen, W12 8DF

Happy New Year!

Enkutatash – literally meaning ‘gift of the jewels’ in Amharic – is Ethiopian New Year. It is celebrated on September 11th in our calendar and marks the end of rainy season and the beginning of a new year. It is a big celebration in Ethiopia full of family, food, and the love of community. The  yellow mountain ‘meskel’ flower represents the holiday, when children make paper flowers from household materials and go around the neighbourhood singing songs. Many people wear new clothes and offer prayers of thanksgiving for the blessings of the past year and seek blessings for the year to come. We invite you to wear something yellow, with flowers – or full traditional Ethiopian dress! – to mark the occasion.

Supporting Education in Ethiopia

All proceeds from the evening will support our projects in Ethiopia.
